Ladybird, Ladybird

This week's cake pops were ladybirds! They possibly haven't turned out quite as well as I'd hoped but I still think they look pretty cute!
I adapted the design from some Bakerella ladybird cake balls but added sticks to give the whole cake pop experience.
I started by rolling balls a little larger than usual:

I then sliced off the base of the balls to give a flat bottom before adding the sticks and popping them in the freezer to firm up. Then came the dipping....

When the chocolate had dried I used dark chocolate to pipe faces onto each ladybird, sliced mini marshmallows for the eyes and a mixture of edible ink pen and dark chocolate for the spots. I actually found piping on the dark chocolate a bit easier than using the pen. The edible ink pens don't seem to like my chocolate...
Anyway - here's the finished result...

Pretty as a Picture

I'm a very big fan of pretty things and I love the prettiness of these 2 designs:

The lollipop designs were made by flattening the cake balls into a circle shape before fixing to the stick and coating. The swirly patterns were made using the old candy coating in a sandwich bag method I've been practicing.
I thought these cake pops would be quite cute with a pink or marbelled filling. I used chocolate - too chocolatey in my husband's opinion. Theres always next time!

The marbelled cake pops were made by coating the cake pops in one colour candy coating and then before it set swirling another colour intuit using a cake pop stick. You need to be quick to get this method to work!

I'm going to keep working on pretty designs...watch this space.

Owls and Chicks

I tried my hand at making some animal cake pops. I made chicks:

And owls:

The owls' and chicks' wings and the owls' ears were made using chocolate chips which I stuck to the cake pop using a little bit of melted candy coating before coating the whole cake pop. I rolled the owl pop balls into a triangle shape before coating and decorating. I used tiny sugar stars for their feet and the owls eyes are made of our cheerios! The owls' beaks are made out of a small toffee piece and the chicks' beaks are made out of orange sugar balls.

Et voila!

Addicted to Cake Pops

I've been making cake pops for a few months now and I think it's safe to say I'm addicted. I thought I'd set up a little blog to chronicle my creativity!
Here's today's cake pop creations:

Vanilla flavoured sponge covered in strawberry and white chocolate flavoured candy coating and decorated with dark chocolate and sprinkles. Mmmmmmmmm....
The swirly patterns are a skill I've been practicing and I've found the best way to do it is to fill a sandwich bag with candy coating, melt it in the microwave, snip away the corner and swirl away! Be warned - it does take a little bit of practice and patience but I think the results are well worth it. I also used this technique for my jubilee cake pops:
